I’M POP.
My daughter asked me to tell you how we got here. I’ll give you the short version.
Loon Log
She thought everybody knew.
Then she moved away.
Jet’s ranch needed explaining. So did “Guaran-Sheed.”
Everybody kept saying Detroit was “getting better.”
It’s always been home.
It started with a T-shirt. A few Dan Campbell quotes.
Then the stories came out.
MIDWEST IS HOME.
Word got around. An offer came along to buy the trademark. For a while, it looked like a way to make this happen.
Then we learned they were “Same Old”-ing other cities, too.
“Midwest is hot right now,” they said.
To her, the Midwest was home.
She mostly wiggled out of the deal. We kept Detroit.
STILL MAKING OUR WAY.
Keeping the name was one thing. Making everything ourselves is another.
We’re starting with books.
A NOTE FROM DANA
When I moved away, I didn’t know how much I’d miss my Detroit people. Then I found a few. A bar with the game on. A booth where somebody else said pop. A table to sit at on Thanksgiving.
The Detroit Supporters Club is mostly us writing those places down.
I really needed it. In case you do too.
